n8n Connector

Overview

n8n Connector for Ivanti Neurons for ITSM is a plugin that connects Ivanti Neurons for ITSM with self-hosted n8n to deliver advanced automation and seamless data exchange. It enables real-time workflow triggers and bidirectional execution between Ivanti and external systems. The solution delivers four custom n8n nodes (two triggers, two action nodes) that function as tools within classic n8n workflows or agents. All API connections use Ivanti Neurons for ITSM, granting full access to platform data. Each Ivanti tenant requires its own API key, and each n8n instance requires its own API key. Comprehensive logging captures every n8n action and returns it to the Ivanti record history for auditability. The plugin requires a self-hosted n8n deployment (cloud n8n is not supported) and works with both on-prem and cloud Ivanti Neurons for ITSM. No custom code is needed beyond standard node configuration.

Why do you need it?

Manual classification of incidents in Ivanti on-prem environments takes several minutes per ticket and introduces errors from inconsistent human judgment. Email-based handoffs to external tools create delays of hours and data silos that prevent end-to-end automation. Native Ivanti automation lacks advanced capabilities and external system connectors, forcing IT teams to build fragile scripted bridges that break during upgrades. n8n Connector for Ivanti Neurons for ITSM eliminates these bottlenecks by extending Ivanti capabilities without cloud migration.

Why is it important?

Advanced classification and routing prevents financial or reputational losses in various scenarios.

For IT, imagine a new incident arriving with only a free-text description - the plugin instantly classifies it and assigns the correct service catalog item, reducing resolution time and avoiding SLA violations. When status changes occur in change requests, the system automatically triggers approval processes in n8n, ensuring compliance without manual oversight. Even problem records linked to multiple incidents become enriched with analysis, accelerating root-cause identification and preventing recurrence.

For business, picture advanced analysis of reported issues to auto-populate priority and impact fields while routing to the optimal team, improving customer satisfaction and reducing churn. Real-time data sync with external systems prevents errors from misclassified requests, maintaining accurate service delivery. Finally, audit-ready logs of every decision protect against compliance risks under ITIL frameworks.

Key features

  • Ivanti Queue Trigger is activated by status changes: Polling intervals and filters monitor any Business Object in Ivanti. Conditions such as “Incident status = Active in Category X” instantly launch the designated n8n workflow. IT gains sub-minute response without custom polling scripts.
  • Ivanti Automation Job Trigger is invoked from native Ivanti workflows: Built-in Ivanti automation nodes call n8n via web services using a single API key. Parameters (e.g., incident number, description) are passed in and enriched results returned in real time. Business avoids duplicate data entry and accelerates resolution.
  • Ivanti Service Manager node performs comprehensive data operations: Full-text searches are executed within a single object, across all objects, or via saved searches; business object records are retrieved, searched by keyword, created, updated, or deleted; relationships are managed through getting related records, linking, or unlinking; attachments are read, uploaded, or deleted; and messages are written to the Ivanti Message Queue. Manual data handling across portals is eliminated entirely. Teams orchestrate complex, multi-step automations with precise control over Ivanti data and relationships.
  • Ivanti Automation Transaction node returns execution status: Success/failure plus detailed reasoning is written back to the Ivanti record history. Every decision is auditable within the native ticket timeline. Compliance and troubleshooting are streamlined without external logs.
  • Classification and service assignment are automated: Incident descriptions are sent to n8n agents; classified category and catalog item are returned and applied. Manual triage time drops from minutes to seconds. Support teams focus on resolution instead of routing.
  • Bidirectional logging is synchronised to Ivanti history: Every n8n step, including explanations, is appended as a work note. Full traceability is maintained inside Ivanti. Auditors and managers view the complete automation chain without leaving the platform.
